If travel is a little tricky at the moment, why not join us for a virtual cheese adventure!
Streamed live from the village of Olliergues, in the beautiful French mountains, ‘Virtual CheeseSkool’ is a workshop dedicated to discovering the world of cheese.
By the magic of Zoom, relax and immerse yourself in French food culture as we take a mouthwatering journey through the stories, myths, and legends behind this ancient local produce. From protected recipes to cheeses with no name, we’ll explore the different milk types, recipes, the importance of terroir, and uncover some of the secrets from behind the cellar door!
On the practical side, there’ll be cheese pairing suggestions from the traditional to the unusual, as well as tips on buying, cutting, and storing your cheese. Everything you need to prepare a killer cheese board and dazzle your friends with your cheese expertise.
Bring your own!
We can talk about cheese until the cows come home, but actually tasting some samples is tricky via zoom, so, why not bring your own? On booking your cheese adventure, we will discuss the food and drinks that we’ll be featuring, and offer suggestions so you can substitute a cheese of a similar type from your own region. For example, we may chat about the Romans stealing the recipe for Cantal – a hard, raw cow’s milk cheese made here in the Auvergne. Whether you are in New York or Newcastle, we’ll suggest a cheese of a similar type that is easily available or local to you. Same with the wines, beers, and even the Dorest knobs!
When and how much?
Each Cheese Adventures takes roughly 2 hours, including a Q&A session on cheese, French life, Auvergne school meals…. at the end – CheeseSkool is always very sociable, even via zoom! We don’t have a set schedule so we can accommodate different time zones and CheeseSkool is suitable for individuals, groups, or even several families coming together from across the miles. All age groups are catered for and, unlike a traditional cookery class, there is something for everyone – cheese lovers, history buffs, wine enthusiasts, Francophiles – in fact, anyone who enjoys good food but not necessarily the slaving over a hot stove.
The cost for virtual CheeseSkool is 40 euros for up to 4 separate connections (so however many people you can get around a screen, x 4!) although larger groups and bespoke classes are also possible.
Every Cheeseskool is different
To book your cheese adventure, just contact us directly with your location and preferred time and dates. We’ll chat with you about any food (or cheese) preferences and then we can compile a bespoke list of food and drink that should be easily available in your local area.
